Animal Bite Custom Medical Model

Two Wounds for the Price of One!

The Challenge:

Why do pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers make demonstration models anyway?  Everyone understands the value of a hands-on demonstration but why use a model?  Models are convenient.  Models can show an injury or be a vehicle to show an invasive procedure.  If your product can be demonstrated on an innocent bystander, you likely do not need a model.  But what if you need to show your animal bite or scratch treatment?

Model Design:

Our client struggled to decide if they wanted to depict a scratch or bite.  We said, let’s do both for the price of one by making a double sided tissue plate.  The challenge was that scratches tends to run the length of the arm while a bite it typically across the arm.  Pulse designed the strap attachment points so they could easily change their orientation 90 degrees.

Model Development:

Getting the scratch pattern and bite marks just right was achieved by sending to client screen prints of CAD sculpt for input; send, collect input, revise, repeat.  After the sculpt was approved, we experimented with a repeatable method to add the blood to the soft wound models.  The approval images for this process make for some pretty interesting email threads.

Model Solution:

Our client uses these models to arm their clinical training team so they can show the procedural steps for animal bite care and proactively treat patient to prevent them from contracting rabies.  The model is a vehicle that will ignite clinical conversations that go deeper into the procedure than a brochure or a tablet app can.  The model is clean, durable and professional.  It is small enough that the field experts can keep it in their bag and use should an impromptu opportunity presents itself.

Although this custom model is not available for sale to the public, we are delighted to make you a version that is specific to your unique medical device and procedure.
